Local molding industries are critical during a crisis, such as this coronavirus pandemic. In this image, an unseen medical professional places a ventilator over the face of a patient.

Why Local Molding Companies are Critical During a Crisis

The manufacturing industry has always been critical to Michigan’s economy, and the coronavirus pandemic has only reinforced the importance of keeping these local businesses thriving. Manufacturers can develop tools and safety equipment that those on the front lines need to assist patients and the community as a whole.

The ingenuity behind these companies cannot be overlooked, as they can also design and create new and innovative resources to help doctors, patients, first responders, and other essential workers.

Most notably, it’s of dire importance at a time like this to be able to rely on local businesses, as they make it possible for other essential workers to obtain the products, parts, and supplies they need as quickly as possible.

Eifel Mold & Engineering specifically, for example, has been asked for several quotes or designed unique products that can be used during the crisis. Following are only two examples:

  • Parts for Ventilators: Eifel has been asked to help in the creation of plastic and machine parts for ventilators. Because these vital tools are needed to literally save patients’ lives, ensuring they all work up to standard is critical.
  • Face Shields: With face masks in limited supply, the molding industry can help to create other resources that protect professionals and patients. Specifically, Eifel has received quote requests for face shields. Similar to what you would see on a helmet with a shield, the plastic clips at the forehead and wraps around the face.
In some ways, plastic face shields such as those used in the manufacturing industry as shown here may be alternatives to face masks during this coronavirus pandemic.

These are only two examples of how the molding industry can assist the field during this crisis and why it’s so important to ensure manufacturing remains strong in this country. The manufacturing industry supports other industries on a daily basis through its capabilities, products, and resourcefulness.

“You need shops that can produce plastic parts for critical devices like ventilator machine parts,” said Eifel Owner Rick Hecker. “You need the manufacturing skill set found in small and large companies.”

We at Eifel are extremely grateful to all first responders and professionals who are helping patients and our nation every day. As such, we are honored and feel obligated to help in any way we can. Please contact us to learn more about our services.
